About the Pottawatomie County Economic Development Corporation

History and Organization:
The Pottawatomie County Economic Development Corporation is a private, non-profit corporation created in 1986 by County Commission ordinance. We receive an annual appropriation derived from a fraction of a county mill levy. Our ten member board of directors is appointed by the County Commission. Three members serve from each of the three commission districts and one permanent member serves from the Jeffrey Energy Center. Members are appointed to two year terms on a staggered basis. We are a registered 501(c)(6) nonprofit economic development corporation. Our headquarters is in Wamego, Kansas.

Vision:
Pottawatomie County Kansas will continue to be a "A Best Place in America" to Visit, to Do Business, Work, Live and Raise a Family.

Mission:
Our mission is to enhance the economic well-being and quality of life of the citizens of Pottawatomie County so that it can continue to evolve as one of the best places in America.

Operations:
The corporation owns three business and industrial parks (See: "Business Parks" below") which have lots for sale that we make available at cost to qualifying businesses and industries.

We are a reliable source of information critical to businesses, industries, nonprofit corporations, governmental entities, towns and cities within our county. This information enables both public and private entities to take advantage of emerging community and economic development opportunities.

Hands - on project assistance is provided by our office to individual businesses, non-profits and communities for business planning, start-ups, expansions, and community development projects.

Partnerships with other organizations ensure that we are able to cooperate on economic and community development projects and contribute important information to our customers and constituents.

Our website and our email newsletter are new opportunities to expand our ability to serve our customers and constituents. Combined with advertising these electronic assets also allow us to market our enjoyable and profitable location.
