Solar Turbines To Take Over Wamego Caterpillar Facility
This afternoon, we had a productive conversation with the Caterpillar Real Estate team, who confirmed that Solar Turbines—a wholly owned subsidiary of Caterpillar—will be taking over the Wamego facility.
Pottawatomie County Economic Update Quarter 1 2025
Pottawatomie County’s initial economic data for 2025 includes strong labor force data and year-over-year sales and use tax growth. While these indicators started off strong, home sales were slow, even seasonally, with year-over-year data for home closings trailing last year’s cumulative data for the same time period.
2024 Annual Report

Economic indicators for Pottawatomie county, including labor, housing, and sales tax data, generally followed trends from the previous quarter and quarter three of last year. Sales and use tax revenues saw a strong spike in July, reaching over $500,000, and helping to bump year-to-date sales and use tax totals slightly above totals for the same time in 2023. Meanwhile, Pottawatomie County’s unemployment rate (not seasonally adjusted) dropped from 3.6% in July to 2.7% in September.

Caterpillar Transition Update January 2025
The Wamego Caterpillar facility is officially on the market, with the listing going live in mid-November through Colliers, the commercial real estate agency hired by Caterpillar.

Pottawatomie County Economic Development Corporation’s strategic plan, Advance Pottawatomie 2030, presents a comprehensive approach to driving economic growth, enhancing infrastructure, fostering regional collaboration, supporting small businesses, and developing the workforce. The plan centers on the organization’s five key objectives, with activities and performance metrics aligned to each goal. It also integrates insights from key partner documents, such as Plan Pottawatomie 2040 and the regional Economic Growth Plan recently completed by the Manhattan Chamber of Commerce.
