Wamego is growing—and we’re seeing the investment to prove it.
Ground has officially been broken on the North Ridge Apartments Expansion, a project that will add 48 new housing units in two new buildings, including units earmarked for senior housing.
Housing is economic development. When communities are growing, employers are hiring, and people want to live here, we need places for those people to call home.
What’s especially exciting about North Ridge is how it came together.
This project is a great example of what can happen when private developers, the City of Wamego, Kansas Housing, and local economic development partners work together to identify a need, find resources, and make an investment possible.
The project was made possible in part through a Moderate Income Housing grant awarded to the City of Wamego. But programs like MIH are only one piece of the puzzle. It takes a willing developer, a community willing to pursue solutions, state and local resources, and—perhaps most importantly—people willing to invest in their own community.
That’s where our local investors play such an important role.
At PCEDC, we talk a lot about the importance of investing in Pottawatomie County. Our investors make it possible for us to be at the table, build relationships, connect partners, identify opportunities, and help communities and developers navigate the resources available to turn ideas into projects.
These projects don’t happen by accident.
They happen because people choose to invest their time, expertise, capital, and resources in the place they call home.
North Ridge is another example of that momentum in action—and another reason to be excited about where Wamego is headed.
New housing. New investment. New opportunities.
That’s economic development. And that’s what happens when a community invests in itself.
